With warm weather on the horizon and the county getting an
early taste of the summer heat, what better way to play in The BC than at one
of the many fun family parks?
April is kite month and this month, Voice of America Park in
West Chester welcomes the WGUC Airwaves Kite Fest. Kite Fest is a free, family
friendly event featuring tons of room for flying kites, synchronized kite
flying teams, kite making for the kids, Cincinnati Zoo animals, tasty snacks,
and more.
Kite Fest, sponsored by WGUC and the Otto M. Budig Family
Foundation, celebrates the magic, wonder, and creativity of kites. The festival
will feature simple kites, complex kites, and unique kites. This year, show up to Kite Fest in style with
your own handmade kite!
Spend some quality time with your kids this season and help
them create their very own kite! This fun and educational art project
encourages math, creativity, ingenuity, and problem solving.
Crafting your own kite is simple, inexpensive, and requires
very little tools. Your basic diamond kite (think Charlie Brown) only requires:
Electrical tape
Scotch tape
Colored plastic bags for making sails
Dark garbage bags for tails
Bamboo BBQ skewers
Flying line
Wood glue
Ruler, pen, and scissors
A smooth flat space to work on
Creativity
With such minimal supplies, your kids will love building a
kite they can bring along to this year’s Kite Fest.
You can learn more about building kites at: www.my-best-kite.com. The website
features step-by-step instructions on how to craft all kinds of different
kites, photo tutorials, how-to’s, and tip and tricks for making your best kite.
Get crafty and build a cute kite with your kids this year.
Don’t forget to grab your camera to catch their work of art in action. If you
snap a great photo, post on our Facebook page! We’d love to see your handmade
kite!
Kite Fest runs April 14 & 15 from noon to 5 p.m. For
